Let's get down to her interview!
We asked Laura two questions, one related to female empowerment, and the other related to the advice she leaves for future entrepreneurs, scientists, and all people who want to create a project!
-Since the deputy director of the project is a man, do people usually assume that it was his idea to create Educa Busca?
Laura: The answer is yes, there were meetings with partners who asked him that, but Henrique would soon answer that I am the founder and I tried not to be bothered by the question. It is a matter of being careful with the words, because the question could be asked without being directed to him, for example: Whose idea was the project? So that's how it is for me to have a male vice president and that's how we deal with sexist questions.
-Laura, what advice would you give to women and people who want to develop a project from scratch?
Laura: My biggest advice to anyone who is trying to start a project from scratch is to do something you enjoy, because you will have to dedicate yourself heavily to the project. I believe that social actions only fail when there is no time and effort to make the action happen, you have to remember the purpose to keep yourself motivated. Something indispensable in the process is to organize and have transparency of the small objectives to reach the final goal. In our case, it is to democratize education, more specifically access to it. Finally, the message I leave is that it is never too late to start a project, "just" commit yourself, because then, for sure, the project will help someone.
